When you look at every major presidential election in the United States, you may be surprised to see that there is always a third party candidate who is on the ballot. In fact, there are usually several of them. So why does history never give any relevance to these candidates? Do they not matter because they are from different parties to the top two? At the end of the day, we have to treat all candidates and parties with the same respect and position if we are going to make any change in the United States in the coming decades.
A very contentious election finished up recently in the United States and there was much talk about how people felt they did not really have a good option. But maybe those people did not have a good option among the major two parties, because there were certainly plenty of 3rd party presidential candidates who would have done a wonderful job if they were given the chance. These candidates would be the ones who could have made a really huge difference if they were given a chance. And it is up to us to make everyone else believe that these are the types of candidates who can win in the future.
If we do not take an independent candidate seriously right now, when are we ever going to give them the consideration they deserve? These are people who have been in politics for many years. They serve their local communities and they have the respect of the people. They do not need a D or R next to their name to appear legitimate. We have to start treating them as a real option during these times, or we are never going to break free of the current system and the partisanship that rules in Washington.
